reproductive chaplaincy
“Reproductive Justice is the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities.”
What is chaplaincy?
Chaplaincy is a ministry of presence. People in hospitals, in prisons, in school, in organizations and companies, in movements and communities: we all experience difficult and important moments. A chaplain comes alongside us in those moments—of life, of illness, of tenderness or hardship—and cares for us. Often, but not always, using a shared faith tradition, chaplains help facilitate emotional metabolism, spiritual nourishment and meaning making.
Okay, but What is a reproductive chaplain?
A reproductive chaplain is someone who specializes in meaning making and accompaniment for those of us who are grappling with decisions about our family-hood. Sometimes it’s hard considering pregnancy, infertility, adoption, abortion, or parenting, and exploring how our faith or values traditions play a role in this is complicated. A reproductive chaplain comes alongside to help explore this terrain and to support someone on their path.
